PsiQuantum is hiring a senior optical fibre engineer at its Daresbury site in the UK to develop and evaluate advanced optical fibre for high-performance optical systems. The job mixes optical modelling, a deep understanding of specialty fibre behaviour and trade-offs, and hands-on measurement of fibre properties, working with internal teams and outside fibre developers. About the optical fibre role
- Model the behaviour of advanced fibre designs and fibre-based optical systems
- Assess modal properties, loss, dispersion, coupling and other key fibre characteristics
- Design experiments to measure and verify fibre properties and subsystem performance
- Reconcile simulation with measurements to guide development decisions
- Work with external partners on fibre design trade-offs and turn system needs into fibre targets
What PsiQuantum is looking for
- A PhD in photonics, optics, physics or engineering, or equivalent industry experience
- Significant experience in fibre optics, guided-wave photonics or optical systems
- Strong understanding of specialty fibre behaviour: modes, loss, dispersion and coupling
- Optical simulation such as FDTD or waveguide and propagation modelling
- Hands-on fibre or optical characterisation experiments
Nice to have
- Advanced or specialty fibre platforms
- Working with fibre fabrication or research groups
- Low-loss optical systems where loss dominates trade-offs
Pay and location
PsiQuantum’s target base salary for a new hire is £64,000 to £76,500 a year, plus equity and benefits. The role is based at Daresbury in north-west England.
