Job Description

PsiQuantum is hiring a Senior Quantum Applications Architect in Daresbury, UK, to lead research into quantum algorithms for fault-tolerant computers and to show, with benchmarks, where they can go beyond what classical computers can do.

At a glance

  • Role: Senior Quantum Applications Architect
  • Where: Daresbury, England, United Kingdom
  • Pay: £78,900–92,900
  • Experience: 5+ years of research in quantum algorithms and applications
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 11 October 2026)

About the senior quantum applications role

  • Propose research initiatives in quantum algorithms for fault-tolerant computers and act as a primary contributor
  • Work with external partners to instantiate, validate and optimise algorithms for use cases in the life sciences, industry and elsewhere
  • Establish families of benchmarks and problem instances to validate that algorithms are genuinely beyond classical reach
  • Guide the simulation and analysis of resource requirements for fault-tolerant implementations on photonic hardware

PsiQuantum builds its quantum computers from photons on silicon chips. Photonic qubits are naturally suited to networking and to fusion-based quantum computing, but they need error-correction schemes and algorithms designed around photon loss and the architecture’s building blocks, which is the kind of problem these roles work on.

What PsiQuantum is looking for

  • 5+ years of research experience in academia or industry in quantum computing, focused on algorithms and applications
  • A degree in physics, mathematics or computer science; a PhD focused on quantum information theory or quantum algorithms is preferred
  • Programming in Python, C++ or similar
  • Teamwork across departments, sites and time zones, and independence in a fast-moving start-up

Nice to have

  • Experience with algorithms and compilation using fault-tolerant gate sets
  • Experience working with academic or industry partners on real-world quantum applications

Pay and location

PsiQuantum lists a salary range of £78,900–92,900 for this role, which is based in Daresbury, United Kingdom.

How to apply

Apply through the official PsiQuantum job posting. PsiQuantum’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 11 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Post-classicality: prepare a clear view on how to choose problem instances that are hard classically yet useful, and how to argue it convincingly.
  • Resource estimation depth: walk through a full resource estimate you have done, and what dominated the cost.
  • Research leadership: describe a research programme you shaped, not just papers you contributed to.
  • Partners: have examples of turning an industry partner's question into an algorithmic project.
  • Code: be ready to discuss tools you built in Python or C++ for algorithm analysis.

About PsiQuantum

PsiQuantum was founded in 2016 with a single aim: to build and deploy million-qubit, fault-tolerant quantum computers. Its architecture is based on silicon photonics, using high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, including partners such as GlobalFoundries, to make the photonic chips its machines are built from.
