About the IARI SRF walk-in

  • Work in the field doubled-haploid facility of the Division of Genetics
  • Genetics and breeding work in field crops
  • Use molecular markers in breeding

The ad names the project and the desirable experience. It does not list duties; the points above follow those.

Why this role matters

Doubled-haploid technology cuts years from making pure breeding lines, and India is scaling it up for better seed. An SRF here works inside the country’s main crop-breeding institute.

Eligibility

  • Master’s degree in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Seed Science and Technology, Biotechnology or allied life sciences, after a 4- or 5-year Bachelor’s degree; or
  • A postgraduate degree in Basic Sciences after a 3-year Bachelor’s and 2-year Master’s, with NET and 2 years of research experience, as per ICAR rules
  • Desirable: research experience in genetics, breeding and molecular markers
  • Age: up to 35 years for men and 40 years for women, with 5 years’ relaxation for SC/ST and women and 3 years for OBC

The posts are unreserved, purely temporary and end with the project. They give no claim to a regular ICAR job. Employed candidates need a no-objection certificate from their employer. No TA/DA is paid for the interview.

Pay and duration

  • ₹37,000 a month plus HRA in the first and second year
  • ₹42,000 a month plus HRA in the third year, as per ICAR norms
  • One year or until the project ends, whichever is earlier, unless extended
