Job Description

These JRF and SRF posts in microwave photonics at DIAT Pune work on a DRDO project. The team is building a photonic receiver for electronic warfare that covers 0.5 to 30 GHz. There are three posts, as SRF or JRF. Apply by 31 October 2026.

The project is “Development of a Photonics Multi-band (0.5-30 GHz) Electronic Warfare (EW) Microwave Receiver System (PMEWRS)”. The advertisement is 29-2026/SRF/JRF/DIAT. The ad itself prints no closing date. The DIAT careers page lists its “Last date of Application” as 31 October 2026. The ad says that if no SRF is found suitable, a JRF will be hired in that place.

About the microwave photonics receiver project

  • Work on a photonic receiver that detects microwave signals across 0.5 to 30 GHz
  • Use fibre lasers, amplifiers and nonlinear optics to process RF signals in the optical domain
  • Work with RF front ends, antennas and high-speed ADC/DAC interfaces
  • Simulate systems in MATLAB, Python, COMSOL Multiphysics or Ansys Lumerical

The points above follow the project title and the ad’s desirable skills.

Why this role matters

Microwave photonics lets one receiver watch a very wide radio band at once. Defence labs need this, and few Indian groups build it. The post can lead to a PhD at DIAT.

Eligibility

  • JRF: first-division B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc in Electronics, Physics, Applied Physics, Optics or Photonics, or a related electronics branch, with NET/GATE; or first-division M.E./M.Tech in these fields at both graduate and postgraduate level
  • SRF: the same degrees, plus at least two years of research, teaching or industry experience
  • Upper age: 28 years for JRF and 32 years for SRF, as on 31 October 2026. Relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, women and PwBD, and 3 years for OBC (NCL)
  • Desirable: RF and antennas, VHDL, high-speed ADC/DAC, ultrafast fibre lasers and amplifiers, nonlinear optics, laser technology and applied optics

The ad has small typing slips in the degree list, such as “M.E./M.Tech in . in”. The meaning is clear. Interviews may be in person or by video. No TA/DA is paid. Fellows are encouraged to register for a PhD at DIAT.

Pay and duration

  • JRF with NET/GATE: ₹37,000 a month + 30% HRA (years 1 and 2), ₹42,000 + 30% HRA (year 3)
  • JRF without NET/GATE: ₹30,000 a month + 30% HRA
  • SRF with NET/GATE: ₹42,000 a month + 30% HRA; without: ₹33,000 + 30% HRA
  • MI Room medical facilities are also provided
  • Purely temporary, for 3 years or the project term, whichever is earlier

How to apply

Make one PDF with a signed short bio-data, the DIAT application form, proof of date of birth, and your mark sheets and degree certificates. Email it to the Deputy Project Director, Dr Rajesh Kumar Singh, at rajesh_singh@diat.ac.in. Use the subject “Application for SRF/JRF”. The ad is listed on the DIAT careers page. Shortlisted candidates are told by email.

Key dates

  • Last date to apply (DIAT careers page): 31 October 2026
  • Age is counted as on 31 October 2026
  • Interview: in person or by video, for shortlisted candidates

Please read the official DIAT advertisement (29-2026/SRF/JRF/DIAT) before applying, and browse more Junior Research Fellow jobs on ResearchJobs.in.

How to prepare for this application

  • Learn microwave photonics basics: how an RF signal is put on an optical carrier with a modulator, and read back with a photodiode.
  • Know photonic receivers: read about photonic down-conversion and channelised receivers for wide RF bands.
  • Revise fibre lasers: gain fibre, mode-locking, amplifiers and the nonlinear effects you can use or must avoid.
  • Show tools: a MATLAB, Python or Lumerical simulation of a modulated link is a strong talking point.
  • Send one clean PDF: the ad asks for a single file; check your age against the 31 October 2026 date.
