About the staff life sciences role
- Originate and lead hybrid quantum applications and algorithms in the life sciences with practical commercial potential
- Work with compiler, cloud and hardware teams on optimised workflows for trapped-ion computers
- Evaluate and communicate the trade-offs, state of the art and scaling of classical and quantum methods
- Lead technical work with client teams, and present to clients and stakeholders
- Build reusable software and integrate new algorithms into end-to-end workflows
Life sciences are one of the areas where quantum computers are expected to help first, through simulating molecules and supporting drug discovery. This role sits in IonQ’s Quantum Applications team and combines domain expertise in biology or chemistry with hands-on quantum algorithm development.
What IonQ is looking for
- A doctorate in a life-sciences field, or equivalent work experience
- At least 3 years of professional experience using and developing computational and ML/AI tools in bioinformatics, molecular biology or advanced therapeutics
- At least 3 years of professional experience developing, applying and validating quantum algorithms in the life sciences
- Strong mathematical foundations for quantum computing, and success working directly with clients
