Job Description
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications to Call 6 of the TUM Global Postdoc Fellowship, which brings early-career researchers from abroad to Munich for two years of research with a TUM host.

Eligibility for the TUM Global Postdoc Fellowship
- You completed your PhD on or after 1 September 2023, or will complete it within 12 months
- You live outside Germany when you apply
- You are not already working at TUM and did not receive your doctorate there
- An active TUM professor, head of institute, chair or junior fellow agrees to host you
Funding and duration
- A monthly stipend of €2,670 for 24 months
- A one-off kick-off payment of €430
- An extra €350 a month if you live in the Munich metropolitan area
- Family benefits are available
- Consumables and conference costs are not included
Your host co-finances 20% of the fellowship and provides a signed letter of support on official letterhead. Fellowships start between 1 April 2027 and 1 April 2028.
How to apply
Applications have two phases and are submitted through TUM’s application portal, linked from the official TUM fellowship page. Phase I closes on 30 September 2026 at 23:59 CET and needs:
- A letter of motivation (TUM provides a template)
- A CV with publication list (up to five pages)
- A copy of your best paper
- Your PhD certificate or confirmation of completion
- A reference letter from your supervisor
- The names of up to three potential TUM hosts

How to prepare your TUM application
- Line up hosts now: with the deadline close, email two or three TUM professors whose work fits yours, attaching your CV and a half-page research idea, and ask whether they would host you.
- Remember the co-funding: hosts pay 20% of the fellowship, so explain what your project brings to their group.

- Brief your referee: send your supervisor the deadline and a summary of the fellowship early, so the letter arrives on time.
