Job Description
Isomorphic Labs is hiring a Bioinformatics Engineer in London to build a high-fidelity biological data layer for its machine learning work: curated, standardised and version-controlled datasets that harmonise public and internal data and ground model training.
At a glance
- Role: Bioinformatics Engineer
- Where: London, United Kingdom
- Level: PhD or MSc in bioinformatics or computational biology, or equivalent experience
- Focus: large-scale bioinformatics pipelines and harmonised biological datasets for ML
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 12 October 2026)
About the bioinformatics role
- Develop and run large-scale pipelines that turn raw data (such as FASTQ, BAM and mzXML) into ML-ready datasets
- Harmonise public databases such as Ensembl, UniProt, Reactome and Open Targets, with rigorous versioning and identifier mapping
- Partner with ML research, computational biology, drug development and chemistry teams to adopt the internal bioinformatics platform
- Join research projects as a “deployed engineer”, then feed project insights back into the core platform
- Document and train others on data resources and curation
AI models are only as good as the biological data behind them. Public databases disagree, identifiers change between releases, and raw sequencing and proteomics files need careful processing before they are fit for training, which is the gap this role fills.
What Isomorphic Labs is looking for
- Proven large-scale processing of raw bioinformatics data (for example FASTQ, BAM, mzXML)
- High-quality bioinformatics outputs across modalities such as genomics, proteomics, functional genomics, systems biology or single cell
- Experience delivering bioinformatics solutions directly to research teams or industry projects, with a focus on enabling users
- Production-grade Python and automated, scalable pipelines
- A PhD or MSc in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have
- Workflow systems such as Nextflow, and orchestration frameworks such as Dagster or Apache Beam
- Bioinformatics infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform
- Polars and SQL
- ML data requirements, and experience with regulated PHI data
Pay and location
Isomorphic Labs’ posting does not state a salary. The role is based in London.

How to prepare for this application
- Pipelines: walk through a pipeline you built from raw reads or spectra to analysis-ready tables.
- Harmonisation: be ready to discuss identifier mapping across Ensembl and UniProt releases.
- Reproducibility: explain how you version datasets so a model result can be traced back.
- Stakeholders: give an example of enabling scientists to use your tools independently.
- ML awareness: think about what makes a biological dataset good for training.
