Job Description

Databricks is hiring a Staff Software Engineer in machine learning for search in Bengaluru, in its Applied AI team, to lead improvements in search quality across customers’ tables, notebooks, dashboards, pipelines, queries and models, some of whom have hundreds of millions of assets.

What you will do

• Drive development and deployment of ML-based search and discovery relevance models integrated with Databricks products
• Design automated ML and NLP pipelines for preprocessing, query understanding and rewriting, ranking and retrieval, and evaluation
• Work with product managers and other teams on technology-first initiatives for search and discovery
• Help build a framework for evaluating ranking improvements offline and online

What Databricks is looking for

• A BS or higher in computer science or a related field (MS or PhD preferred)
• 10+ years developing search relevance systems at scale in production or high-impact research
• Experience applying LLMs to search relevance
• Experience in one or more of query understanding, NLP, text mining, recommendations, personalisation, discovery or conversational AI
• Strong computer science fundamentals
• Contributions to well-used open-source projects
