KTH’s Department of Mathematics is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in learning, control and games, to develop mathematical foundations and computational methods for closed-loop systems where a dynamical environment, algorithmic decision-makers and strategic agents all influence one another.

About the postdoctoral project

• Model, analyse and design coupled systems of dynamical environments, algorithmic decision-makers and strategic or adaptive agents
• Tackle stability, identifiability, performance and robustness challenges that arise when decisions change both the environment and the data available for learning
• Use insights from closed-loop decision-making to design more efficient, sustainable, resilient and reliable intelligent systems

The postdoc will also be enrolled in WASP, the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program, Sweden’s largest individual research programme, with access to its resources. The host group in the Department of Mathematics works on optimisation and mathematical systems theory, including network and nonlinear control and games, and collaborates with industry on robotics, radiation therapy, cell biology and supply chains.

What KTH is looking for

• A doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree, completed by the time of the employment decision
• A solid background in one or more of applied mathematics, systems and control, game theory, machine learning, optimisation and decision-making
• A strong foundation in mathematical tools relevant to the project
• Exceptional research achievements and publications in high-impact venues
• Advanced analytical skills and the ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams
• Outstanding written and spoken communication, and awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues

Nice to have

• A doctorate obtained within the last three years before the deadline
• Expertise in one or more of the project’s specific research areas
• Teaching and mentoring abilities

Pay and location

KTH lists a monthly salary for this postdoc but gives no figure. It is a temporary, full-time appointment of at most two years in Stockholm, Sweden, described by KTH as a first career step after the doctorate.
