Job Description
KTH’s food centre (KTH FOOD) is hiring two postdocs in AI, learning and control for sustainable food systems, to model decision-making across producers, consumers, policymakers and technology providers, and to design interventions that promote sustainable diets, cut environmental impact and improve resilience.
At a glance
- Positions: Postdoc (2 posts), School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
- Host: KTH FOOD
- Contact: Assistant Professor Angela Fontan, angfon@kth.se
- Background: PhD in electrical engineering, automatic control, applied mathematics or similar
- Reference: PA-2026-2939
- Apply: 22 September 2026, midnight CET/CEST
About the postdoc role
- Use AI methods to model and predict complex decision-making across interconnected actors in food systems
- Capture interactions among producers, consumers, policymakers and technology providers in evolving food ecosystems
- Design interventions that promote sustainable diets, reduce environmental impact and improve resilience
- Publish, including perspective articles on the sustainability of food innovations, present at conferences and help write funding applications
- Collaborate with one of KTH FOOD’s other themes and take part in outreach and academic service
Food systems link farmers, processors, retailers, consumers and policymakers, and their choices affect one another, the climate and public health. Treating them as interconnected dynamic systems lets researchers test interventions, such as changes that encourage sustainable diets, before they are tried in the real world.
What KTH is looking for
- A doctoral degree in electrical engineering, automatic control, applied mathematics or a similar field, completed by the employment decision
- A strong background and interest in networked control systems, mathematics and machine learning
- Research expertise with an outstanding research and publication record
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Good spoken and written English
Nice to have
- A doctorate obtained within the last three years before the deadline
- Awareness of diversity and gender equality issues
Pay and location
KTH lists a monthly salary for this postdoc but gives no figure. It is a temporary, full-time appointment of at most two years in Stockholm, Sweden, described by KTH as a first career step after the doctorate.
