Job Description

Lund University’s Department of Chemistry (Faculty of Engineering, LTH) is recruiting an Assistant Professor in polymer technology with a focus on polymer chemistry, a six-year tenure-track post at the Centre for Analysis and Synthesis. The post comes with funding for a PhD student. Current polymer research at the centre targets energy and the environment, including materials for energy storage and conversion and sustainable bio-based polymers, and the new appointee can choose their own research direction.

About the assistant professor post

• Build an independent research programme in polymer chemistry, for example new synthetic routes for demanding polymer properties
• Teach at all three levels and supervise degree projects and doctoral students
• Seek external research funding
• Collaborate with industry and wider society
• Take up to five weeks of training in university teaching

What Lund University is looking for

• A doctorate or equivalent research competence, normally within seven years of the deadline (longer for special grounds such as parental leave)
• Extensive documented experience in polymer chemistry, including synthesis and characterisation of polymer structure and properties
• Postdoctoral research experience outside the university where you took your PhD
• A research plan of 1,500 to 2,000 words that could support external funding
• Very good English, collaboration, initiative and an interest in leadership

• Documented success in winning competitive external funding
• Research that combines experiments and theory
