Job Description

Uppsala University’s Centre of Excellence for The World in the Viking Age (WIVA) is appointing two to four International Visiting Researchers for spring 2027. Each spends three months in continuous residence in Uppsala, working on global interactions of ideas and material culture in the late Iron Age and Viking Age (about 750 to 1050 CE) with connections to the Scandinavian peoples, including links along the Silk Roads, the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean and Asia.

About the visiting researcher posts

WIVA is one of 15 national Centres of Excellence set up by the Swedish Research Council in June 2023, funded for five years with a possible five-year extension. It is directed by Prof. Neil Price with Docents Charlotte Hedenstierna-Jonson and John Ljungkvist, and has hosted postdocs and visiting researchers since 2024.
