Job Description
Uppsala University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy is hiring a tenure-track assistant professor in quantum information theory. The post sits in the Quantum Matter Theory research programme and is linked to the Centre for Geometry and Physics, a Swedish Research Council Centre of Excellence run jointly with the Department of Mathematics. Topics of particular interest include quantum networks, quantum error correction, quantum correlations, measurement theory, topological and geometric aspects of quantum information, and its mathematical foundations. A start-up package of one PhD student and one postdoc comes with the post.

Teaching language
Uppsala expects its teachers to teach in Swedish and English over time. Applicants who cannot teach in Swedish at first get Swedish language training as part of their duties, and the university offers Swedish courses to new international staff. About the department
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of Uppsala’s largest, with nearly 400 staff, including around 60 professors and more than 100 doctoral students, organised in 14 research programmes. The Quantum Matter Theory and Materials Theory programmes work on strongly correlated and topological quantum matter, quantum information and first-principles electronic structure.
What UU is looking for
- A PhD in physics or a closely related field; preference for a PhD awarded no more than seven years before the deadline
- Research expertise in quantum information theory that fits the Quantum Matter Theory programme and the Centre for Geometry and Physics
- A research plan showing an independent profile and how it strengthens those groups
- High-impact publications, conference talks, productive collaborations and project leadership
- Teaching expertise, especially in physics, and at least five weeks of university teacher training (or within two years)
- Documented ability to teach in Swedish or English
Nice to have
- A record of winning external funding
- Administrative and management experience
- Outreach, industry collaboration or other work with wider society
Pay and location
Uppsala University sets salaries individually; the advert gives no figure. The post is a six-year, full-time tenure-track contract in Uppsala.
