Job Description
The Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Attosecond Science group in ETH Zurich’s Laboratory of Physical Chemistry is hiring a postdoctoral researcher for Attochirality, a new ERC Advanced Grant project to establish attosecond chiroptical pump-probe spectroscopy. The postdoc will lead the new optical platform: a 100 kHz few-cycle Yb-fibre laser, circularly polarised isolated attosecond pulses, 1-2 fs deep-UV and near-IR pulses, and electron-ion coincidence detection in a reaction microscope, including new spin-resolved electron detection.

About the attosecond postdoc
- Build and commission the platform for circularly polarised isolated attosecond pulses, with CEP and path-length stabilisation and XUV optics
- Develop methods to fully characterise the pulses using 3D momentum-resolved photoelectron measurements
- Integrate and commission spin-resolved electron detection
- Coordinate reaction-microscope experiments on chiral charge migration and transfer
- Mentor PhD and master’s students and contribute to papers and planning
What ETH Zurich is looking for
- A PhD in experimental AMO physics, physical chemistry, photonics, laser physics or a related field, by the start date
- A strong publication record from independent experimental work
- Hands-on experience in at least two of: fs/as lasers, high-harmonic generation, XUV beamlines, CEP experiments, pulse characterisation, momentum spectroscopy, electron detectors
- Building and troubleshooting complex optical and vacuum instruments
- Experiment control and analysis in Python, C/C++, MATLAB or LabVIEW
Nice to have
- High-harmonic generation, circular-polarisation metrology, COLTRIMS, Mott or spin-LEED detectors
- Active interferometric stabilisation or high-repetition-rate lasers
