Job Description
The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore is hiring a Research Fellow in single-photon detection. The project develops advanced single-photon detection technologies and applies them to optical sensing, imaging and related quantum and photonic systems. The post is hosted by Asst. Prof. Di Zhu’s group. Single-photon detectors are the receivers in most quantum key distribution systems, so this work sits close to quantum communication hardware.
At a glance
- Position: Research Fellow
- Group: Asst. Prof. Di Zhu, Centre for Quantum Technologies
- Location: Kent Ridge Campus, Singapore
- Posted: 13 August 2026
- Req ID: 34054
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)
What you will do
- Develop and characterise single-photon detection systems and related components
- Design and carry out experiments in optical sensing and imaging
- Manage project milestones and deliverables
- Help mentor graduate students
- Share results through reports, presentations and papers
About the host centre
The posting describes CQT as a centre where physicists, computer scientists and engineers do basic research on quantum physics and build devices based on quantum phenomena, applying their discoveries in computing, communications and sensing. It has around 200 staff and students and an international working environment on NUS’s Kent Ridge campus.
What NUS is looking for
- A PhD (completed or nearly completed) in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering or a related area
- Research experience in single-photon detection, optical sensing, imaging or related fields
- Hands-on experimental, instrumentation and signal-processing skills
- Programming skills, for example Python or MATLAB
- Teamwork and good communication
Pay and location
NUS does not publish a salary in this posting; research fellow pay follows NUS scales and depends on experience. The posting gives no closing date.
How to apply
Apply through the official NUS job posting. NUS’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 14 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.
