Job Description
DTU Physics offers a PhD at the interface of 2D materials, nanofabrication and quantum transport, building device platforms that link electronic transport directly with structural and nanoscale characterisation such as TEM, AFM and nanoARPES. It is part of the Villum Young Investigator project DynamiQ and the MSCA project SCALER, in collaboration with DTU Nanolab and external partners.

What the post involves
- Design and fabricate chip architectures for quantum superlattice devices with embedded contacts and electron-transparent regions
- Develop transfer and stacking of graphene, hBN, TMDs and charge-transfer materials
- Make devices compatible with low-temperature transport, TEM and surface-sensitive measurements
- Measure electronic transport and correlate it with TEM, SEM and AFM
Why this post matters
Stacked 2D materials can host new quantum states, but linking a device’s atomic structure to its electrical behaviour is hard. Building devices that can be measured both ways is a clever answer, and it trains a PhD student in fabrication, cryogenic transport and electron microscopy at once.

- A master’s in physics, nanotechnology, materials science or a related field
- Interest in experimental nanofabrication and quantum materials

- Cleanroom or 2D-material stacking experience
- Low-temperature measurement experience
Pay and location
Salary follows the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations; the ad says the allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
