This fibre laser project associate job in Kolkata is at CSIR-CGCRI. The project builds pulsed fibre lasers for spectroscopic detection and imaging microscopy. Email your application by 12 October 2026. The walk-in interview is on 14 October 2026.
At a glance
- Post: Project Associate-I (PAT-I), 1 post, Advt. No. 50/2627/FOPD/OLP2316/SDC, post code 50/2627/01
- Where: CSIR-CGCRI, Jadavpur, Kolkata
- Pay: ₹31,000 a month + HRA, for NET/GATE or equivalent qualified candidates
- Duration: 1 year at first, extendable until the project ends
- Apply by: Email by 12 October 2026; walk-in interview 14 October 2026 from 2:30 pm (hybrid)
The project number is OLP2316, sponsored by CSIR. Its title is “Pulsed Fiber Lasers for Spectroscopic Detection and Imaging Microscopy”. The advertisement is for one post.
About the pulsed fibre laser project
- Help build and test pulsed fibre laser sources in the lab
- Use the lasers for spectroscopic detection and imaging microscopy
- Work with electronics, optics, fibre optics and opto-mechanics on the bench
The advertisement names the project but does not list daily duties. The tasks above follow from the project title and the desirable skills.
Why this role matters
Pulsed fibre lasers are compact and robust. That makes them good light sources for field spectroscopy and for microscopes outside big labs. CGCRI draws its own fibres, so you would see the full chain from fibre to working laser.
Eligibility
- Master’s or integrated master’s in Physics, Electronics, Optics or Optoelectronics, or
- BE/BTech in Electronics & Communication, Optoelectronics, Optics, Laser Technology, or Electronics and Instrumentation
- First class in the qualifying degree, from a recognised university
- Desirable: lab experience in electronics, optics, fibre optics or opto-mechanics
- Age limit 35 years on the interview date; 5 years relaxation for SC/ST, persons with disabilities and women; 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer)
Send the typed application form (hand-written forms are not accepted) with self-attested soft copies of every certificate. Candidates whose results are awaited are not eligible. If you already work on a project at CGCRI or elsewhere, attach a no-objection certificate from your project leader. Convert CGPA to a percentage using your university’s rule, and attach a self-attested copy of that rule. The post is for Indian citizens.
Pay and duration
- ₹31,000 a month plus HRA, for candidates who have qualified CSIR-UGC, ICAR or ICMR NET (including Lectureship or Assistant Professorship), GATE, or a national-level exam run by central departments such as DBT or DST
- This advertisement gives no lower rate for candidates without NET or GATE
- Tenure: 1 year at first, extendable until the project ends, based on performance
How to apply
Fill in the CGCRI application form for project fellows (Word file). Type it. Email it with self-attested copies of your documents to recruitment.cgcri@csir.res.in by 12 October 2026. The interview is hybrid. If you want to attend online, say so in your application. For an in-person interview, report at least one hour early with original documents. Late arrivals will not be let in.
Key dates

How to prepare for this application
- Revise mode-locking and Q-switching in fibre lasers, and how pulse width and repetition rate are measured
- Know rare-earth doped fibres (ytterbium, erbium, thulium) and their emission bands
- Be ready to talk about any bench work: fibre splicing, cleaving, power meters or an optical spectrum analyser
- Revise basics of Raman or fluorescence spectroscopy and why pulsed sources help
- Carry every original certificate and a printed CGPA conversion rule to the interview
About CSIR-CGCRI
