Its full title is “Mobile phone based multi-modal optical imaging system with structured illumination and fluorescence spectroscopy powered by AI for depth resolved skin diagnostics at Point of Care”. About the optical imaging SRF project

• Develop signal and image processing algorithms for spatial frequency domain imaging (SFDI) and fluorescence imaging
• Work towards skin cancer diagnostics
• Work with partners in Singapore, where a low-cost version of an advanced instrument will be built
• Contribute to the electronic instrumentation

The advertisement says the main use is for “skin cancer development”, which reads like a slip for skin cancer detection. We quote it as printed.

Why this role matters

Skin cancer checks need a specialist and costly equipment. A phone-based imager could bring depth-resolved checks to small clinics. The work mixes optics, electronics and algorithms, and can lead to a funded PhD.

Eligibility

• BE/BTech in Electronics Engineering or a similar branch with first division, plus at least two years of research or industry experience after the degree, or
• ME/MTech/MS in Electronics Engineering or a similar branch with first division
• Desirable: strong signal processing, and Python and C/C++ programming
• Desirable: a qualified GATE score
• Age: up to 35 years, with relaxation as per Government of India norms

The selected candidate is encouraged to register for a PhD at IIT Indore. If admitted, the fellowship continues for the PhD as per institute norms. Only shortlisted candidates are called for interview. No TA/DA is paid.

Pay and duration

• ₹42,000 a month plus 16% HRA (as per norms)
• Duration: 1 year, extendable after a performance review
