Job Description

CSIR-IGIB Delhi has opened its PhD admission for January 2027. The degree is awarded by AcSIR. You need a valid JRF fellowship to apply. The IGIB application form gives the last date as 31 October 2026.

At a glance

  • Programme: PhD (AcSIR), January 2027 session
  • Where: CSIR-IGIB South and North campuses, Delhi
  • Fellowship: Your own CSIR-UGC JRF, DBT JRF, ICMR JRF or equivalent
  • Age limit: 30 years on 31 October 2026, with relaxation as per rules
  • Apply by: 31 October 2026 (IGIB form)

The notice lists these research areas: chemical and systems biology, genomics and genome editing, genome informatics, digital health and AI, functional biology, microbiology and infectious disease, RNA and cell biology, skin biology and structural biology.

Who can apply for the CSIR-IGIB PhD programme

  • Graduates from life sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or computer science with an interest in biology
  • Students who already hold a JRF and want to use it in a CSIR lab
  • Students who are awaiting final results, subject to meeting all rules at admission

Why this role matters

Many JRF holders struggle to find a lab with seats in January. IGIB runs one of India’s strongest genomics programmes and takes students in this mid-year round. It also has a growing digital health and AI group.

Eligibility

  • At least 60% in Class XII
  • An MSc or MTech with at least 60% in life sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science or allied subjects “with special interest in Biology”
  • SC, ST and OBC (non-creamy) candidates need at least 55% in both Class XII and the highest degree
  • A valid fellowship certificate (CSIR-UGC JRF, DBT JRF, ICMR JRF or equivalent), valid at joining and at least until 31 January 2027. Its rules must allow work in CSIR labs
  • A GATE score does not count as a fellowship for MSc or MTech candidates
  • Upper age limit of 30 years on 31 October 2026, relaxed for women, SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy) and PH candidates

If you have already started your JRF somewhere else, you need a transfer consent letter. The notice has two gaps. It says the dates are “as mentioned by AcSIR”. It also says interviews are online (TBA) in one place and in person at the IGIB campuses in another. Check the IGIB form page and email phd@igib.in if unsure.

Pay and duration

  • You bring your own JRF fellowship. The notice gives no stipend amount
  • The notice mentions an application fee but gives no amount

How to apply

Applying takes two steps. First, register on the AcSIR admission portal (acsir.res.in/admissions) and choose CSIR-IGIB as a preference. Then use your AcSIR application number (AAN) to fill the CSIR-IGIB PhD application form. Keep a passport photo (JPG, up to 2 MB) and a research proposal or statement of purpose ready. You cannot edit the form after you submit it.

Key dates

  • IGIB form last date: 31 October 2026
  • Interviews: dates to be announced
  • Session: January 2027

Please read the official CSIR-IGIB PhD notice (PDF) before applying, and browse more PhD positions on ResearchJobs.in.

How to prepare for this application

  • Check your JRF dates. It must be valid until at least 31 January 2027. GATE alone will not do.
  • Register on AcSIR first. You need the AAN number before the IGIB form will accept you.
  • Write a focused statement. Pick one or two of IGIB's areas and say why, with one idea you want to test.
  • Prepare for a reasoning interview. The notice says you will be judged on how you understand, analyse and reason.
  • Know possible advisers. Look up IGIB faculty on our Find a supervisor page and read one recent paper from each.
