Earth and Climate Science at IISER Pune works across the solid earth, the oceans and the atmosphere. The department accepts NET, GATE, JEST and INSPIRE-PhD, so a physics, chemistry, geology or engineering route can all lead here.
Eligibility
- A master’s degree in science with at least 60% aggregate marks; 55% for SC, ST and PwD candidates
- A master’s degree with 60% marks, or 55% for SC and ST candidates
- Each department sets its own list of accepted qualifying examinations, and IISER Pune does not treat them as interchangeable
Qualifying examination
Candidates must have qualified a NET, either CSIR-JRF or UGC-JRF, or GATE, or JEST, or INSPIRE-PhD.

Deadlines differ by department at IISER Pune, so check the date against the department you are applying to and do not assume a common closing date.
Fellowship and duration
Scholars are supported through the national fellowship they hold, such as CSIR-JRF, UGC-JRF or DST-INSPIRE, or through an institute fellowship where one is offered. The department notice does not state a figure, so confirm the amount against your own award before you plan your finances.

- Check the deadline for your own department. IISER Pune closes its departments on different days.
