The project
Adaptive reuse of buildings matters more each year: it helps meet Europe’s housing needs, cuts environmental impact and makes better use of what is already built. Deciding whether and how to reuse a building is complicated. Many stakeholders and criteria come into it, existing buildings and locations impose technical and spatial constraints, and there is growing pressure to limit global warming impact across the building’s new life cycle.
As a PhD researcher on the Horizon Europe project ReEnsemble, you would investigate how these decisions are currently made across different European contexts, mapping and analysing existing decision-making processes and strategies with qualitative research methods, then developing improved approaches from what you find.
What you need
- A master’s degree in architecture, building engineering, construction management or a related field
- Comfort with qualitative research methods, which this project leans on
- Read the official advertisement for the full requirements
