The project

Spaceborne radar has proved itself across applications from high-resolution imaging to altimetry. This two-year postdoctoral position advances the field as part of NL-RIA 2.0, the Dutch network on small spaceborne radar instruments and applications, following the NL-RIA 1.0 project.

Funded by the Netherlands Space Agency, NL-RIA 2.0 keeps the network’s focus on breakthrough technologies for miniaturised radar missions, in step with recent advances and the trend towards low-cost distributed space systems.

You would work closely with NL-RIA partners to derive high-level user requirements for two classes of radar instrument: distributed synthetic aperture radar, and a near-nadir looking interferometric imager. The work includes evaluating fractionated space system architectures against those requirements.

What you need

  • A PhD in electrical engineering, remote sensing, aerospace engineering or a related field
  • A background in radar systems, synthetic aperture radar or interferometry
  • Read the official advertisement for the full requirements

Pay and conditions

Salary and benefits follow the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The advertisement states no figure of its own, so check the scale for your grade. TU Delft adds a pension scheme, and the usual Dutch holiday and end-of-year allowances.

How to apply

Apply through the application button on the TU Delft job page and upload the documents it asks for. The advertisement says to apply no later than 15 October 2026.

How to prepare for this application

  • Distributed and fractionated architectures are the theme. Formation flying and bistatic SAR experience is directly relevant.
  • It is partly a requirements job. You will work with partners to define what the instruments must do, so systems-engineering experience counts.
  • Apply through the button on the job page. TU Delft only takes applications through its own system.
  • Check the Dutch 30% ruling. If you move to the Netherlands for this post you may qualify for a tax advantage that changes your take-home pay noticeably.
