The advertisement is No. NIBMG/ADMIN/ESTB/2026-27/224, dated 7 October 2026. GARBH-Ini follows a hospital cohort of pregnant women from the first trimester until delivery. The cohort runs at a district hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana. The programme brings clinicians, biologists and statisticians together to find causes and early markers of preterm birth.
What the NIBMG preterm birth genomics SRF will do
- Run hands-on next generation sequencing experiments
- Run bulk and single-cell transcriptomics, and analyse the data
- Interpret results and help write scientific reports and manuscripts
- Take on other project work assigned by the PI
Why this role matters
Preterm birth is a leading cause of death in newborns in India. GARBH-Ini is one of the largest pregnancy cohorts in the country. An SRF here gains rare skills in single-cell work on human samples, inside a national programme that publishes widely.
Eligibility
- A postgraduate degree in life science, or a graduate or postgraduate professional degree in biological sciences
- You must have been selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship) or GATE, or through a national-level exam run by a central agency such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE or ICMR
- At least 2 years of research experience
- Desirable: hands-on NGS with bulk and single-cell transcriptomics and data analysis; research in maternal and child health with peer-reviewed papers in the area
- Maximum age: 35 years on the closing date. Relaxation for SC, ST, OBC, PWD and women as per Government of India norms
The advertisement does not name a city. NIBMG’s campus is in Kalyani, West Bengal. The application email is a lab Gmail address given in the official advertisement. The Hindi version of the ad gives the pay without the HRA percentage; the English version says 24%.
