  • Pay: ₹20,000 a month + HRA
  • Duration: 1 year to start, extendable up to 24 November 2027 if funds allow

  • Apply by: 1 November 2026 by email; interview 3 November 2026, 11:00 am

The project is CLP0107, titled “Development of YB-fiber Laser Source at 1 um” in the ad. YB here means ytterbium (Yb). The advertisement is 53/2627/FOPD/CLP0107/SDC. The post is open to Indian citizens.

About the fibre laser project assistant post

  • Help build and test a ytterbium-doped fibre laser that emits near 1 µm
  • Handle optical fibres, optomechanics and electrical wiring in the lab
  • Operate lab machines and record measurements
  • Prepare simple reports and slides with basic computer tools

The ad lists skills only. The points above follow those skills and the project title.

Why this role matters

Fibre lasers cut and weld metal in Indian factories, and most are imported today. This project builds one with an Indian industry partner. It is a rare entry-level route into a top fibre-optics lab.

Eligibility

  • B.Sc in Physics or Electronics; or a 3-year diploma in Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical engineering or technology; with at least 60% marks or equivalent GPA
  • Desirable: experience in electrical, electronics or machine handling
  • Desirable: basic computer skills (Word, PowerPoint) and lab skills in optics, fibre optics and optomechanics. The ad’s list also mentions wire handling and “shouldering”, which reads like a typo for soldering
  • Age: up to 35 years on the interview date. Relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, physically handicapped and female candidates, and by 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer)

Candidates with results awaited are not eligible. If you already work on a project anywhere, attach a NOC from your project leader. Work out your percentage from CGPA using your university’s rule, and attach that rule. Bring originals and self-attested copies to the interview. Report one hour before the start time; late arrivals are not allowed in.

Pay and duration

  • ₹20,000 a month + HRA
  • 15% increment for 3 years of experience in the same project
  • 1 year to start, extendable up to 24 November 2027, based on funds

How to apply

Type the prescribed application form; the ad asks for a typed form. Email it with self-attested soft copies of your certificates to recruitment.cgcri@csir.res.in by 1 November 2026. The walk-in interview is on 3 November 2026 from 11:00 am at CSIR-CGCRI. It runs in hybrid mode. If you want to attend online, say so in your application. Apply separately for each post.

Key dates

  • Last date to email the application: 1 November 2026
  • Walk-in interview: 3 November 2026, from 11:00 am (report one hour early)

How to prepare for this application

  • Learn how a fibre laser works: pump diode, doped fibre, fibre Bragg gratings and output coupler.
  • Know basic lab safety: laser classes, eye protection and safe handling of bare fibre.
  • Practise fibre handling: stripping, cleaving and splicing are common first tasks in such labs.
  • Be ready to talk about tools: multimeters, power meters, soldering and simple mechanical fixtures.
  • Prepare documents early: typed form, marks with the CGPA rule, category proof and any NOC.
