Job Description

IIT Indore’s Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science is hiring a Junior Research Fellow to develop noble-metal-free metal oxide electrodes that survive harsh, corrosive environments, on a project funded by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy. The PI is Dr. Nisheeth Kumar Prasad.

Electrodes used in strong acids, for example in water electrolysis or industrial electrochemistry, usually rely on expensive noble metals such as iridium or platinum. Mixed oxides of cheaper transition metals, deposited by thermal methods, could replace them if they can be made both active and stable against corrosion.

About the JRF role

  • Synthesise acid-stable, transition-metal-oxide-based electrocatalysts
  • Study their electrochemical and corrosion behaviour in corrosive environments

Eligibility

  • M.Tech/M.E. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology or equivalent, with first division as defined by the awarding institution; or
  • A Master’s degree in Chemistry or Materials Science or equivalent, with first division
  • GATE or NET-LS qualified candidates will be preferred
  • Age: maximum 30 years (3 years’ relaxation for OBC; 5 years for SC/ST, physically handicapped and female candidates)

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the online interview, and selected candidates will be told by email.

Pay and duration

  • Rs 37,000 per month (consolidated)
  • 1 year and 4 months, or co-terminus with the project
