Job Description
IIT Indore’s Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science is hiring a Junior Research Fellow to study thermomigration in high-entropy solder alloys, on an ANRF Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant project led by Dr. Vivek Verma. The group strongly prefers candidates who want to go on to a Ph.D. at IIT Indore.

In modern electronics, tiny solder joints can sit across steep temperature gradients, which drive atoms to migrate and can eventually break the joint. High-entropy alloys, which mix several elements in similar amounts, may resist this, and the project combines computational thermodynamics, diffusion modelling and experiments to design thermally stable solders.

Institute hostel accommodation may be provided subject to availability; otherwise HRA applies. Desirable: a strong foundation in physical metallurgy, thermodynamics and mechanical behaviour; understanding of phase transformations, diffusion, microstructure-property relationships and strengthening mechanisms; experience in characterisation or mechanical testing; and proficiency in scientific computing tools, Thermo-Calc and DICTRA.
Eligibility
- M.Tech/M.E./M.S. or equivalent in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering, having qualified GATE at least once; or
- B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent in those branches or Engineering Physics, with a valid GATE score; or
- M.Sc. in Materials Science, Physics or Nanoscience and Technology with a valid GATE score; or
- UGC/CSIR-JRF qualification or an equivalent fellowship
Candidates are shortlisted on merit and project requirements, and the interview is online. The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project, and meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.
