Job Description

KTH’s School of Industrial Engineering and Management is hiring a postdoc in bio-based functional carbon materials for experimental research on biochar, graphite, graphene and activated carbon made from biomass. The work runs from preparing and modifying these materials through thermal, catalytic, activation and purification processes to characterising their structure, chemistry and performance.

About the bio-based functional carbon materials project

  • Prepare and modify bio-based carbons by thermal, catalytic, activation and purification routes
  • Characterise structure, chemistry and function of the materials
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and analytical instruments
  • Supervise master’s and undergraduate students
  • Contribute to publications, research proposals and some research administration

What to include in your application

  • A doctoral degree (or equivalent) by the time of the employment decision
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Experience in biomass conversion, catalytic graphitisation, carbon activation, purification or exfoliation
  • Experience with Raman, XRD, SEM/TEM, BET, TGA or elemental analysis
  • Experience supervising undergraduate or master’s students
  • Experience of electrochemical testing, adsorption studies or other application tests of carbon materials

Nice to have

  • A PhD obtained within three years of the deadline
  • Experience in running research projects and project reporting
  • A strong publication record

Pay and location

KTH’s advert lists a monthly salary but does not state the amount. The post is full time in Stockholm, for at most two years, with the start date by agreement.
