  • Apply: 19 October 2026 (the end date on Shell’s job board)

What the Shell materials and corrosion Research Associate will do

  • Help design, build and run lab tests on materials in many chemical environments, some at high temperature and pressure, some with hydrogen sulfide
  • Run electrochemical tests and immersion tests in high-pressure autoclaves with toxic gases
  • Prepare samples, set up tests, monitor them, collect data and report results to the project leader
  • Contribute to failure analyses
  • Own and maintain the test equipment in your area, with full documentation
  • Carry out lab upgrades under Management of Change, with lock-out tag-out, gas detection and other safety controls
  • Run process control and data acquisition systems, and modify test units

Why this role matters

Corrosion decides how long pipelines, plants and hydrogen systems last. Hands-on autoclave and electrochemical testing is a scarce skill in India. This role builds it inside one of the largest energy R&D centres in the country.

What Shell is looking for

  • A B.E. or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering or metallurgy
  • At least 4 years of industry or site experience, including at least 1 year of materials compatibility and mechanical testing in a corrosion lab
  • Mechanical and metallurgical testing, and the metallurgy of oil and gas materials
  • Reading PEFS, P&IDs, circuit diagrams and OEM manuals; judging equipment design and installation
  • Lab testing and chemical handling; Shell DEP, ASME, ASTM and NACE standards
  • Shell lists familiarity with STCB site operations, permit-to-work, MOC, RAMS and Sphera Cloud as essential

Nice to have

  • Corrosion testing with autoclaves (given extra weight)
  • Setting up labs and test equipment in a multinational company’s lab

Pay and location

The posting gives no salary. It is a full-time regular role at Shell Technology Centre Bangalore. Shell says it may withdraw a posting before its closing date, so do not wait.
