Job Description
Form Energy is hiring a Staff Materials Engineer for its Anode Design and Performance team. Working between materials and battery engineering, the engineer writes specifications for iron electrode materials and processes based on property-to-performance links, and designs the electrochemical tests that prove them in lab, large-scale and field-deployed batteries. Relocation help is available.
At a glance
- Team: Anode Design and Performance
- Location: Somerville, Massachusetts
- Pay: $147,959 – $184,966 a year, as listed
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)
What you would do
- Create materials specifications for iron electrode components, backed by a mechanistic understanding of the electrochemistry
- Design, run and interpret anode tests in lab, large-scale and field-deployed batteries, closing gaps between R&D and product scale
- Own root-cause analyses and FMEAs on electrode materials and devices
- Characterise electrode materials and work with supply chain, R&D, manufacturing and test teams
Why this role matters
As Form scales production, materials specifications become the link between research results and consistent products. This staff role sets those rules for the iron electrode, a core part of the battery, so it has a direct effect on performance and cost at factory scale.
What Form Energy is looking for
- Deep materials science and electrochemistry experience
- Experience writing materials specifications and inspection methods
- Root-cause analysis and FMEA experience
Nice to have
- Experience scaling battery materials from R&D to production
Pay and location
