Senior Lecturer in Computational Biology (Ecological and Evolutionary Modelling) at Lund University

Job Description

Lund University’s Department of Biology is hiring a permanent senior lecturer in computational biology to build an independent research group in mathematical modelling of ecological and evolutionary systems. At least half of the post can be research, and the department offers a start package that includes funding for a PhD student and some equipment. The holder will teach modelling, ecology, evolution and bioinformatics courses and help develop the faculty’s new doctoral programme in computational science.

• Build an independent research environment in ecological and evolutionary modelling that complements the department’s research

Language and application format

About the Department of Biology

The department was formed in 2010 and has more than 300 staff, about 70 of them doctoral candidates. Its Biological Museums hold around 12 million specimens, mainly Nordic insects and vascular plants.

What LU is looking for

• A PhD in biology or computational science, or equivalent research expertise
• Demonstrated expertise in analytical mathematical modelling of biological systems
• A research plan showing how your work fits with the Department of Biology
• A very strong record of winning national or international funding
• Experience supervising undergraduates and PhD students, and varied, documented teaching
• Research at another institution after your PhD
• Excellent English; five weeks of teaching training or equivalent (or completed within two years)

Nice to have

• Other computational methods such as population simulations, machine learning or bioinformatics
• Course development and course leadership
• Supervising postdocs (highly valued)
• A broad international network, outreach and leadership experience

Pay and location

Lund University sets salaries individually and paid monthly; the advert gives no figure. The post is permanent and full time in Lund.
