Job Description
Zscaler is hiring a Staff Threat Researcher in Pune for its Threat Hunting department, to study emerging cyber threats and attacker behaviour and turn them into better detection across its global security cloud. It is an industry research role that mixes hands-on hunting with AI and machine learning tools.
At a glance
- Role: Staff Threat Researcher, Threat Hunting department
- Location: Pune (hybrid)
- Reports to: Senior Manager, Threat Hunting
- Schedule: Flexible, including weekend night shifts and on-call support
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 12 October 2026)
What you will do
- Analyse emerging threats, adversary behaviour and tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) to improve detection
- Hunt proactively and retroactively through Zscaler telemetry using behaviour-based methods
- Research, validate and clearly document all hunting findings
- Hunt independently and respond to customers, including on-call support
- Turn adversary behaviour into hunt hypotheses and detection logic
Threat research sits between security operations and research: you look for attackers who have slipped past existing defences, work out how they operate, and write detection rules so the same technique is caught automatically next time. The posting says the role involves proactive and retroactive hunting in Zscaler’s own telemetry, and flexible schedules including weekend night shifts to meet global operational demands.
What Zscaler is looking for
- A foundational understanding of AI/ML and experience using or securing AI-driven solutions in your domain
- Hands-on experience in threat hunting, incident response, security operations, malware analysis or network defence
- Practical experience with SIEM tools such as Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel or Elasticsearch
- Deep familiarity with the MITRE ATT&CK framework and modern TTPs
- Advanced Python scripting and automation, with expertise in writing IDS/IPS and YARA signatures
Nice to have
- Using ML models, LLMs or NLP to automate threat-intelligence synthesis, generate hunt hypotheses or analyse large telemetry datasets
- Significant experience as a senior threat hunter leading complex investigations and mentoring others
- Turning malware-campaign analysis into detection logic, with a bachelor’s or graduate degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent security experience
Pay and location
Zscaler’s posting does not state a salary. It lists benefits including health plans, leave, parental leave, retirement options and education reimbursement. The role is hybrid, based in Pune.
